MÁ OCLUSÃO E HÁBITOS BUCAIS DELETÉRIOS: uma revisão crítica

A Organização Mundial da Saúde classificou as más oclusões como o terceiro maior problema de saúde bucal, ficando atrás apenas da cárie dental e doença periodontal. Tendo em vista a alta prevalência das más oclusões e a relevância deste assunto para o cirurgião-dentista, realizou-se este trabalho com o intuito de verificar na literatura a relação entre as más oclusões e os hábitos bucais deletérios. Foram feitas buscas nos bancos de dados eletrônicos PubMed, Lilacs e Scielo utilizando o cruzamento das palavras-chave: malocclusion, occlusion, habits, sucking, deleterious e parafunctional, e selecionados artigos do tipo ensaio clínico que abordassem o tema desta revisão. Ao final da busca foram selecionados 12 artigos do tipo ensaio clínico e analisadas as características presentes em cada um deles, tais como: tamanho e faixa etária da amostra; presença de cegamento e randomização nos estudos; tipo de má oclusão e hábito pesquisados; intervenção realizada, presença de grupo controle. Os trabalhos selecionados não tinham como objetivo principal correlacionar as más oclusões e os hábitos bucais, tendo como foco principal comparar diferentes tipos de intervenções utilizadas para o tratamento de determinadas oclusopatias. Apesar disso, pôde-se notar a influência dos hábitos bucais sobre as más oclusões, alguns hábitos foram responsáveis pela recidiva e outros hábitos após serem removidos levaram a correção de algumas más oclusões. Pôde-se concluir que há correlação entre os hábitos bucais deletérios e as más oclusões, tendo sido constatada uma relação de causa e efeito.
